Elbow Tour and Ready for Their Mercury Music Prize

Justin July 29, 2011 0
Following the success of ’build a rocket boys!’, Manchester’s multi-award, Mercury Music Prize winning five-piece are returning for a North American tour this fall in support of their 5th critically acclaimed studio album. Up until now, ‘build a rocket boys!’ may be better known as the band’s most recent album, released via Downtown/Fiction Records in the U.S. and available in all good stores and iTunes since their Coachella performance in April of this year. Although folks may now have to get used to a very different kind of ‘build a rocket boys!’ this fall; with the band’s very own special brew of ale, thanks to the help of Bredbury’s own Robinson’s Brewery in Greater Manchester.
“Lead singer Guy Garvey and his four bandmates – all real ale fans – enlisted the brewery to help them create a beer… After a tour of the Robinsons Brewery, bottling plant and tasting room, the lads came up with a unique golden ale. Described as having a ‘rich, rounded body, smooth bitterness, subtle tang of malt and a fruity aroma’, the 4% ale will be named ‘Build A Rocket Boys!” to continue celebrating the success and longevity the album has had in 2011, not to mention the ‘build a rocket boys!’ beer inclusion into this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Festival, reports the Manchester Evening News.
And a cause to celebrate and drink their special brewed ale they certainly have, for they were recently shortlisted and tipped to win the Mercury Prize Music Awardfor the ’2011 Albums of the Year, rivalling against fellow Brits such as AdeleJames BlakePJ HarveyMetronomy, and Katy B to name a few.
Since the release of ‘build a rocket boys!‘ this spring, the band made a whirlwind trip to perform at this years Coachella Festival. As the sun set, the band wowed the crowds and critics alike with their powerful performance, complete with strings on stage and an impressive catalogue of songs, garnering impressive reviews hailing them as the highlight act of this years festival by many major publications.
Due to an overwhelming response, the band has decided to honor the demand and set their sights across the Atlantic again. The tour kicks off in the sunny south at the prestigious Austin City Limits, then up to the north-east for select shows including New York City’s Terminal 5 before venturing all the way west, ending up atThe Greek Theater in Los Angeles.
Earlier this year, elbow completed their first headlining UK arena tour, including 2 sold out nights at London’s O2 arena, confirming them as one of the worlds most treasured live and studio artists of our time. Last month, the band also be performed alongside Coldplay on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and on the main stage before Muse at Reading and Leeds festivals this summer.
